Document 4.0- Is all stainless steel the same?
- No. "Stainless steel" covers a range of alloys, and they behave differently: the cheaper ones can pit with chlorine and sweat, the better ones hold up. Ours is steel rather than a brass base, which is the difference that decides whether a worn finish leaves a green mark. We are confirming the exact grade with the supplier and will publish it here rather than describe it in words that sound reassuring.
- What does PVD actually mean?
- Physical vapor deposition. It is a vacuum coating process that can produce a harder, more wear-resistant finish than electroplating, which lays a film of gold on top of the base metal in a chemical bath. Process alone does not prove durability, so the finished pieces still have to be tested.
- So how thick is the coating?
- We do not know yet, and we are not going to guess in public. Quotes from suppliers for this kind of coating vary enormously, which is exactly why the number matters. The first batch will be measured by XRF and the reading published here, whatever it says.
- Can I shower with it?
- Yes. SIAFRA is made to stay on through showers, swimming, sleep, sweat and ordinary soap. The base is stainless steel, which does not tarnish, and the gold is applied by PVD rather than electroplating. Any plated finish wears in time, and the guarantee covers exactly that: if it fades, we’ll trade.
- Why is it more than the ten other sites selling this?
- We specify the base metal and finish, and back the pieces with our trade promise. Product pages show planned prices; the final list is published before release.
- What evidence is there for the specs?
